After each energy session I provide a ten minute Himalayan Salt Foot Soak. Himalayan Pink Salt (HPS) is known to have at least 84 different minerals and nutrients that are used in the human body [1][11]. Because the feet are so porous, they easily absorb the nutrients and minerals that are dissolved in the water of the foot bath. Here are 10 excellent reasons to regularly have a Himalayan Salt Foot Soak:

 

  1. Detoxify your body

Adding Himalayan Pink Salt (HPS) to your foot bath helps remove toxins from the body. Through a process called reverse osmosis, the HPS helps to draw excess fluids and toxins from the body.

  1. Ease Aches and Pains

When you are exercising or active in any way, your muscles produce Lactic Acid. A buildup of Lactic Acid in the system is one common reason you experience muscle cramping and fatigue. The minerals in HPS, specifically the Magnesium, Potassium and Sulfates, help to draw the Lactic Acid out of the muscles and into the circulatory system where it can be eliminated through the skin [2].

  1. Help Hydration

When your electrolytes are in balance you are able to maintain adequate hydration [3].

  1. Improve Sleep and Relaxation

While you sleep, your body goes through a process of repairing itself on a cellular level. This often causes you to wake up feeling thirsty and out of sorts. Potassium and Magnesium, both found in HPS, are known to help promote relaxation. Not only do they help prevent dehydration, they also help to prevent restless leg syndrome and sudden painful leg cramping [4].

  1. Aid Muscle and Nerve Function

The Magnesium and trace elements found in HPS help to promote the conduction of nerve impulses. This increases the hydration of the cells which allows Calcium to more easily pass messages along the nerve fibres [5].

  1. Aid Calcium Absorption

Calcium is needed to help maintain bone density and prevent osteoporosis. The body uses Magnesium and other minerals to help the bones absorb the circulating Calcium. When there isn’t enough free Magnesium in the system the body will leach it out of the muscles to aid absorption of Calcium. This causes muscle fatigue and cramping. HPS is an excellent way to replenish your mineral stores [6].

  1. Regulate Insulin Production

Proper Magnesium and sulfate levels in the body increases the effectiveness of insulin in the body. NOTE *Proper care should be taken if you are diabetic, monitor your blood sugar levels before and after taking a foot bath [7].

  1. Treat Foot Odour and Athlete’s Foot

Soaking your feet in a hyper-salinated solution will kill the fungus that causes foot odour and Athlete’s Foot. HPS is anti-bacterial and has antiseptic properties. [8]

  1. Balance Blood Pressure and Aid Circulation

HPS may improve circulation and protect your arteries by decreasing inflammation and maintaining the elasticity of the arterial walls. This helps to regulate blood pressure and decreases the risk for blood clots. [9]
